Nigel received a call from a family in Toorak, after hearing some loud noises coming from their backyard they discovered a yellow tailed black cockatoo had got itself caught up in the net of their trampoline.

Nigel soon got her feet untangled from the netting, she received some minor injuries from a bit of struggling to untangle herself. We treated her injuries and put her into rehabilitation for 3 days, Nigel then took her back to the same place where she was reunited with her mate who as soon as he heard her he called back.

Barrie Tapp of 1800 animal cruelty investigations received a call about some burnt cattle in Cranbourne, after fires had swept across the South Gippsland Highway burning out a large area of paddocks and scrub. The Cattle got put down due to their severe burns 2 days later Barrie went back to the same area to check for any other animals, upon arriving he found a RSPCA inspector standing at the side of a quary looking bewildered as to how he was going to save a dog that was stuck in the quicksand. The only idea that the inspector could think of was to shoot it. Barrie was straight on the phone to Nigel.

Nigel soon arrived to inspect the situation and came up with an idea, he used 2 blow up jet skis to get himself over to the dog who was up to his neck and getting weaker. Nigel also had a rope tied to himself that was held on by his brother Paul in case he happened to full in. As Nigel got closer the dog managed to use all of his last energy to pull himself out on the bog.

The dog slowly walked over to Nigel to get help, he was tied up and placed into a large bag where he was able to be dragged to safety by the Nigel’s Animal Rescue team and the CFA waiting on the edge of the quicksand.

Team member Michelle with help from the CFA cleans mud from the dogs eyes and face. She also gives it a nice stiff cold drink after its distressing ordeal, the dog then went to the RSPCA to be checked for ID and a health check. After an search for the owners through newspapers etc he was not claimed, he was then found some new owners and from what we last heard is a happy boy and stays clear of  large puddles of mud.

We received a call from Help For Wildlife that Dandenong Creek  had been once again contaminated by oil, and that ducks had been covered with it, Brendan and Nigel met up with a team from Help For Wildlife to rescue both wild and domestic ducks.

20th January 2009 a fire starts at Carrum Downs, believed deliberertly lit by a teenager, this dence bushlands main wildlife being ringtail possums, birdlife and reptiles caused a large loss we estimate over 100 of our native wildlife lost in this fire.

Nigel finds a young stray and very scared kitten 3 days after the fires.

We got a call that a cat was stuck behind a speaker and could not get out for 3 days, when Nigel got there and took off the back board of the speaker box he realized the cats leg had got caught up around the speaker wire and he was unable to move. Nigel had to cut the wire and slowly untangle it from around the very swollen lower part of the leg, the cats foot had become very swollen and alot of damage had been done, from the extreme stress and the constant tugging to be released.

As you can see by the photos he had a very swollen foot and after getting a cuddle from his owner, he was then taken to the vet for treatment. Unfortunately due to the extensive injuries to his foot it had to be amputated, but he is now fine and learnt to survive with only 3 feet.

This story is of determination to fit in, when 2 days after a group of 9 Black pacific ducklings came from Chadstone Shopping Centre after losing their mother. A young wood duckling was dropped off, we placed him in with the group but they constantly picked on him, but champ as he was called would not take no for an answer and kept fighting his way in with them, even sitting on top of the group at one stage, after a couple of hours we took one of the black Pacific’s out and placed champ and him together after a day they became the best of mates they were then put back with the group and champ was never picked on again in fact he became the boss of the group.

Jason Weston of Diamond Creek, was out in his backyard near a wood pile getting his bin to put out the front for collection the next morning. Jason felt a sudden prick on his foot looking down he soon realized it was a snake, he called to his daughter Mia-Anne to quickly go and tell her Mother Raquel that Dad had just been bitten by a snake of some sort and to call an ambulance. While the ambulance was on its way Raquel who happend to be close friends with Sharon for the past 18 years made the urgent phone call to us to remove and identify the snake, Brendan was in Warrandyte at the time so was able to get to Diamond Creek and remove the Tiger Snake from the backyard.

This Rottweiler X decided to frantically chase a rabbit one night, but was not really thinking when he  himself jammed between two shipping containers at Keilor.

Nigel had to dig his way under the container to be able to pull him out from underneath.

This is him half way through his rescue, looking a little bit bored of the whole adventure, and thinking to himself I will get the wascally wabbit back for this.

And back out safe and sound and ready for a good meal,  a stiff drink of water and a nap after his 4 hour ordeal.

This male wood duck not looking where he was flying got himself stuck 30ft up on a netting that surrounds the Cranbourne North Golf Course. The fence is about 50ft high and is designed to stop the balls from getting out, a resident walking his dog spotted the duck hanging around and reported him to us. We sent Brendan out a new employee, he quickly had him down, he has minor injuries to his foot but should recover well.

Loved cat Sinatra had been missing for over a week and her owner Amber had just heard some faint meows in her neighbours wall cavity. Amber had thought she heard the faint cries the night before but it had faded away so she could not pin point to where it was until Tuesday morning. Nigel arrived and started to  pull out bricks he soon found  Sinatra to be hanging upside down in a 4 x 4 inch gap and caught up on some electrical wire,  after smashing up some bricks to form a gap big enough one hour later Nigel had her safely out and in the comforting  arms of her owner.
